“Employee Resource Groups to Business Resource Groups: the next step in LGBT workplace evolution”

Effectively leveraging LGBT employee networks for all stakeholders

LGBT employee networks or ‘Employee Resource Groups’ (ERG’s) do what the name implies: they bring together LGBT employees in an organization and can be a resource of information and activities on the topic of LGBT inclusion at work. However, often, the link of how ERG’s can best benefit an organization and how the organization can best benefit ERG’s is unclear, resulting in a lack of direction and applicability for all concerned. This workshop looks at how one company (IBM) has taken the concept of ERG’s and fully integrated it into their business, creating both a clear focus for the company and its employees on LGBT topics. An inter-active discussion will explore this example and how ‘Business Resource Groups’ could work in other organizations.
